IGEL L100: Hardware

Igel One (L100)

The label on the side of this unit identifies it as an Igel L100. It is also known as the Igel One. As it runs Igel's Universal Desktop software I guess the Igel L100 could also be taken to be UD (series 1).

This model was launched in September 2009 and reached End-Of-Life at the end of 2010, with End-Of-Maintenance point being at the end of 2013.

There is no date of manufacture on my Igel One, but from the serial number (which begins 1209) and the date stamp on some of the plastic mouldings I assume it was manufactured at the end of 2009.

The Igel One is quite small and very light.

Power Supply

The IGEL L100 uses an external 12V power supply. The connector is a standard 5.5mm/2.5mm coaxial plug.

Disassembly

Looking at the rear panel you need to remove the four screws - two at the bottom and two at the top. You also need to remove the two threaded pillars either side of the VGA socket. After that you can remove the back panel and then the various other bits of the cover can be removed.

CPU

The CPU is a VIA Eden clocked at 400MHz.

Flash: Unusually the 1GB flash memory can not be replaced. It's a single package SSD (SST85LD1001k) that also includes the IDE controller. It's soldered to the board close to the USB sockets.

RAM: There is a single 200-pin DDR2 SODIMM socket for the RAM. The 512MB ASint SODIMM supplied with the unit is labelled: DDRII 512MB-667 SSX264M8-J6EE.

Battery: The backup battery is a conventional CR2032 but, as you can see in the photograph, is not fitted in a socket but is wired into the board via a plug and socket.

Case: The centre of each cover has a plastic plug covering a hole - see the photo at the top of the page. The one on the right-hand-side (looking from the front) includes a threaded insert. I assume this can be used in some way to mount the unit. The photos below show the plug in place and removed.
