As always with HP models you need to check the small print. The T5700 comes in three models: DC639A, DC640A, DS435A. The model I have is the DC639A and was manufactured in April 2004.
I also have a unit labelled T5000 1G which, as far as I can see, uses exactly the same PCB and was manufactured in June 2003. The only difference I've been able to spot is that the paper label on the BIOS(?) chip reads V1.05-1G as opposed to V1.09-1G on the other. I assume this model was subsequently renamed the T5700.

The embedded operating system is Windows XPe sp1. The processor apparently grabs 16MB of the system memory.
The DC640A only has 192MB of flash.
The DS435A has 192MB of flash and the CPU clock speed drops to 733MHz.

The unit requires a 12V supply. If yours came without one a unit can be easily sourced. I bought a 12V 3A unit on ebay that was advertised as being a replacement one for an LCD display. I'm not too sure of the exact dimensions required for the plug, but a 5.5mm external 2.1mm internal plug seems to fit.
The RAM is a standard 200-pin SODIMM. Whilst the standard memory for this model is 256MB this one actually came with a 512MB SODIMM. The datasheet on the HP Website has the unhelpful comment of Memory Slot: 256-MB DDR SDRAM standard. My T5700 came fitted with a 512MB module. It is manufactured by Kingston and is marked: KTC-P2800/512 which is a 266MHZ (PC2100) SODIMM. From the TM5800 datasheet it would appear that this is the fastest memory speed supported by the integrated memory controller.

On looking at the PCB my first thought was "What on earth is the PCI expansion slot is for?" as there is minimal clearance above it once the metal cover is fitted. However I've since discovered that HP do supply a small riser and alternative side panel so that you can fit a PCI card (See right).
