Igel D220 Thin Client

The D220 is one of the several hardware models that have underpinned Igel's UD2 (and IZ2) series of thin clients. I assume the D220 was launched in the first half of 2015 as a replacement for the D210. Checking Igel's website I see the end-of-life date for the UD2-LX 40, IZ2-HDX40, IZ2-RFX40 and IZ2-HORIZON40 (all based on the D220) is given as 30 December 2017. (Maintenance on the UD2-LX 40 goes on until December 2020, but not on the other three products).

I assume that my unit is running the Igel standard V5 Linux software. The screen it booted into didn't offer an easy way of finding out what it was running. The comprehensive setup utility identified itself as version 5.09.100.01 (Build 5.1.28).

The power consumption looks to be amazingly low!

Power Supply

The IGEL D200 uses an external 12V supply with a conventional coaxial connector: 5.5mm x 2.5mm.

Expansion

Memory

Both the Flash memory and the RAM in the D220 are easily replaceable.

Flash:The flash memory is a 2GB SSD plugged into a conventional SATA socket. (Top left in the photo).

RAM:There is a single 204-pin DDR3 SODIMM socket for the RAM. The 4GB Nanya SODIMM supplied with the unit is labelled: 4GB 1Rx8 PC3L-12800S-11-12-B4.1600 and NT4GC64C88B1NS-DI The D220 data sheet says: "DDR3L-1333 SO-DIMM x 1 (up to 4GB)"

If you look at the photo you can see just below the SODIMM there is 6-pin header labelled JP1. I don't know what this is for but I do note that it is next to a winbond IC and so may provide a way of programming the BIOS at manufacture.
