HP t5530: Hardware

HP t5530 Thin Client

The HP T5530 I have was manufactured in July 2007. As far as the hardware is concerned the t5530 appears identical to the t5135 in every way except for the CPU that is fitted to the circuit board.

The embedded operating system is Windows CE 6.0. Note: The one I got had got the 64MB DOM replaced by a 4GB Compact Flash card with Debian installed on it.

For those to whom it matters here is some detail from Linux's /proc/cpuinfo

Power Supply

The unit requires a 12V supply. If yours came without one a unit can be easily sourced. I bought a 12V 3A unit on ebay that was advertised as being a replacement one for an LCD display. I'm not too sure of the exact dimensions required for the plug, but a 5.5mm external 2.1mm internal plug seems to fit.

Expansion

inside

The RAM is soldered to the board and so fixed at 128MB.

The Flash memory is usually provided by a DOM (Disk On Module) fitted to a standard 44-pin IDE connector. You can see in this case there is a 4GB Compact Flash card connected instead. (I've moved it up out of the way so it doesn't obscure the circuit board. Normally it is located above the RAM).

There are two USB ports located under the top cover. An ideal location for adding something like a USB wireless device.

From an HP briefing document:

"Going forward, new t51xx and t55xx thin clients will not have configurable RAM. For manufacturing economies of scale, RAM will be installed "down." The t51xx and t55xx units will not include a SODIMM slot."
