Expansion

As usual, clicking on the photo (right) will take you to a larger scale photo of the circuit board.

It is fairly compact in size so there is little space to fit anything internally.

Flash: The Flash memory is replaceable. It's a DOM plugged into a standard 44-pin IDE connector.

RAM: The RAM is a single DDR2 SO-DIMM. The Clientron datasheet for the U800 says that it supports: "DDR2 400/533 from 256MB to 2GB"

Wireless: The datasheet does mention "Optional WLAN module" but originally I didn't look into how this is fitted. In March 2020 Pete pointed out a Clientron U800 data sheet that says "WLAN: Option (Internal USB header for WLAN module)"

In January 2022 I heard from Janusz in Poland who pointed me at the connector CN3 that is lurking under the DOM. This provides the connection point for the internal USB port. It is a 4-pin JST connector with the pins spaced at 1.25mm. Sometime ago I purchased a pack of 10 plugs from China that fit this connector. Janusz found that a microphone connector salvaged from an old all-in-one HP PC fitted.
