Centerm C92: Hardware

Centerm C92 Thin Client

I believe the C92 was launched back in 2015. I couldn't locate any formal announcement but the datasheet carries a 2015 copyright and Google's AI makes the same guess if asked. It is available in two forms: Dual Core CPU running WES7/WES8/COS (COS = Linux in form of Centerm OS) or a Quad Core CPU running Win 10 IOT. Needless to say my version is the dual core version. However the dual core J1800 CPU is slightly more modern than the quad core J1900 and gains 0.4GHz in clock rate.

Power Supply

The C92 runs off 12V and uses a 5.5mm/2.5mm coax plug. The supplied PSU is a 12V 3A unit.

CPU

The CPU fitted to my example of the C92 is an Intel Celeron J1800 dual core. An alternative is the quad core J1900. Note: This is an assumption of mine. Listed in the Centerm data sheets the processor options are just identified as: 'Intel Quad-Core 2.0GHz' and 'Intel SoC Dual-Core 2.41GHz'.

Expansion

The circuit board is shown right - click on the image for a larger version. Unfortunately it was not obvious how to remove the circuit board to get to the other side. I stopped trying in case I damaged my single example of the C92

Centerm C92 thin client MSATA module
Flash: The flash memory is provided by a mSATA module. This is easily upgradeable.

Centerm C92 thin client memory SODIMM
RAM: The RAM is a single socketed DDR3L SO-DIMM located on the rear side of the board. Unfortunately I couldn't work out how to access it. In the photo (taken through the case) you can see the line of the gold-plated contacts of the SODIMM where it plugs into the socket along with a bit of the labelling above it.

Centerm C92 thin client Jumpers
Jumpers: There are two jumpers just below the ethernet socket. I do not know their purpose.

WiFi: There is a blanking plug at the top of the back panel where a WiFi aerial can be fitted. I do not know how the WiFi option is engineered but the data sheet does say the number of back-panel USB ports drops from five to four with the WiFi option.

Battery: I assume there is a backup battery located on the rear of the circuit board. Squinting through the cover I did spot some red/black wires that could be part of a plug-in battery.
