CLI AG6601

CLI AG6601 thin client

I do not know exactly when the Computer Lab International AG6601 was launched, but the BIOS includes a build date of January 2012. The AMD G-Series T48E CPU was launched in June 2012, so mid 2012 would appear to be a good guess.

The AG66xx comes in various flavours. I think the difference in the models is the CPU fitted which also alters the Graphics support. I have seen mention of:

  • AG6600 AMD G-Series T40N (1.0GHz) Dual Core - AMD Radeon 6290 Graphics.
  • AG6601 AMD G-Series T48E (1.04GHz) Dual Core - AMD Radeon 6250 Graphics.
  • AG6602 AMD SOC GX-218 (1.8GHz) Dual Core - AMD Radeon R1E Graphics.
  • AG6661 AG6601 with Wireless card fitted.

My example is the AG6601H.

Power Supply

The AG6601 uses an external 12V supply with a conventional 5.5mm x 2.1mm coaxial connector. Mine came without a PSU but the case is labelled 12V 3A.

Expansion

CLI AG6601 circuit board

The motherboard is shown right. Click on the photo for a larger image.

The centre section of the case is filled with a stepped piece of aluminium the middle of which has a small heatsink bolted to it. The only things of interest here are the SATA SSD, SODIMM RAM, backup battery and the header by the battery which lets you clear the CMOS.

CLI AG6601 flash memory fitted
Flash: The flash memory is upgradeable as it is a SATA SSD plugged into a SATA data socket. There is a separate two-wire connection to the +5V supply to the DOM. The capacity of the fitted SSD is dependent on the installed OS. In my case it was only 2GB.

CLI AG6601 SSD
In my experience this style of DOM is rare. A quick check on eBay did find one or two possibilities but they were horrendously expensive. However it should be relatively easy to engineer an upgrade using a more conventional DOM.

CLI AG6601 RAM
RAM:There is a single 204-pin DDR3 SODIMM vertical mounting socket for the RAM. The datasheet says DDR3-1333. It can be 2GB/4GB/8GB dependent on the OS. Mine came fitted with 2GB of RAM.

Space inside CLI AG6601

There is a certain amount of space within the case where an alternative SSD could be fitted. The space is approx 74mm x 60mm x 20mm.
