Neoware: Model range

Neoware Thin Clients

This page used to be on the HP website - and may still be there somewhere. The link I had no longer works. To save others having to search for it here's my copy.

Decoding Neoware legacy part numbers

The following information indicates how to decode a Neoware part number.

Neoware part numbers use the following format:

  • The Part Number is in aa-aa-aa-aaa format. The final triplet "aaa" is not included unless there are specific hardware options or differences.
  • The model numbers are in aa### format.

Example Neoware label

In this example, "DD" indicates the P690 product line, "A3" indicates that it has a custom version of Windows XPe, and "KE" indicates that it has 512MB flash and 512MB RAM.

The Bcom code (the "CA" code) is CA22. This indicates that it is an e14 V4 thin client.

Neoware part number breakdown

BL-03-KD corresponds to an E100 with a P640 motherboard running a standard Windows XP image, 512 MB of Flash memory, and 256 MB of RAM. Customized units or "specials" will have letters A-Z in the OS designation (for example, BL-A3-KD).

Model number DC-03-KE (Bcom number DC). The DC indicates that this is an E90 unit with the newer V4 hardware. The 03 indicates the unit is running Windows XPe. The KE indicates the unit has 512 MB of flash and 512 MB of RAM.

Product list

The following table provides a list of Neoware products, including Bcom, board type, and model type information.

The Bcom number is the easiest way to quickly determine a product. The Bcom number is also the most reliable because the it will always appear on the certification label of the product, and the certification label is a required product marking. Many products will also include the Part Number sticker, but that sticker is not required.

Flash and memory size

The table in this section indicates how to determine HP Neoware thin client RAM and flash size based on part number, as follows:

  • The 5th character in a part number represents flash memory.
  • The 6th character in a part number represents RAM.

  • X2 = NeoLinux
  • X3 = XPe

For more information about decoding HP Neoware part numbers, see "Decoding Neoware legacy part numbers"

Determining operating system from the thin client

Use the following commands to determine operating system from the thin client.

Windows XPe:

  • From the command prompt type system version.
  • For older versions of XPe type version.

Windows CE:

  • Press F2.
