The unit requires a 12V supply. If yours came without one a unit can be easily sourced. I bought a 12V 3A unit on ebay that was advertised as being a replacement one for an LCD display. I'm not too sure of the exact dimensions required for the plug, but a 5.5mm external 2.1mm internal plug seems to fit. (Maplin stock one - part # AQ88V type E).
Both the Flash memory and the RAM in the T5000 are easily replaceable. The board with the flash you can see in the top left of the picture. It's a Disk On Module (DOM) plugged into a standard 44-pin IDE connector. The RAM is fitted to the bottom right in a 200-pin DDR SODIMM socket. My T5000 came without RAM fitted. I don't know the actual specification for the memory, but I fitted a 128MB module of DDR400 (PC3200) that I had to hand (actually ex the neoware CA15 that I'd upgraded to 256Mb!). That works fine. |
On looking at the PCB my first thought was "What on earth is the expansion slot is for?" as there is minimal clearance above it once the metal cover is fitted. However I've since discovered that HP do supply a small riser and alternative side panel so that you can fit a PCI card (See left). |
