HP t820: Disassembly

Disassembly

HP t820 top panel removal
Disassembly is straightforward. The starting point is to undo the large knob at the top of the rear panel. Having done that you can slide the top panel a short distance to the rear, lift it off and put it to one side.

HP t820 inside
Looking inside you can see metalwork for fitting a 2.5" hard drive and a DVD drive. This obscures the motherboard and the mSATA flash drive.

HP t820 sata drive metalwork
Looking at the metalwork you can see that it breaks down into two pieces. The basic framework for a 5.25" DVD drive (or similar) and a carrier for a 2.5" hard drive.

Pulling the catch at the rear of the carrier towards the front of the t820 lets you lift it out of the chassis.

This just leaves the metalwork support intended to hold a DVD drive or similar. This is secured by two screws (circled) and a latch (arrowed).

Remove the two screws.
