Neoware CA5 Firmware

BIOS

The Neoware CA5 has a standard Phoenix Award BIOS - hit the DEL key on power-up to get into the setup screens.

The boot options cover:

  • Floppy
  • LS120
  • HDD-0
  • SCSI
  • CDROM
  • HDD-1
  • ZIP100
  • USB-FDD
  • USB-ZIP
  • USB-CDROM
  • USB-HDD
  • LAN
  • Disabled
This makes life easy for us as we can boot an operating system from almost anything.

The BIOS may be password protected. If the backup battery is flat you will find that it is password protected. The default password is DOGBITES. (At least it worked for me!).

NeoLinux

If you have a NeoLinux version (eg BE-02-BA) the information following may be useful:

  • Hold down the Shift key as you power up the CA5 to bring up a LiLo menu.
  • Type vga single and press the enter key.
  • Once you see Starting up...open: No such device you can press Alt/F2 to switch to a root console.

From here you can explore the filing system.

Running the passwd command will let you change the root (administrator) password.
