The E in the Z90DE7 stands for 'Expansion'. This has a wider case and supports the expansion through the provision of a (16x) PCIe socket. My example (pictured above) also includes the 'Legacy Connectivity' option that adds two serial ports, a parallel port and a PS/2 keyboard port. It was manufactured in September 2011.
It uses the same motherboard as others in the Z90/Z50 series. Naturally it has a wider case to accommodate the PCIe expansion and there is also a small increase in height.
Dimensions H x W x D (mm) 215 x 69 x 225
Operating system: Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7.
This is mounted behind the front panel and connects to CN18 on the motherboard.
The Z90DE7 was advertised as NO VIDEO?? and on delivery it did hang on startup with a blank screen.
Having a spare working Z90 motherboard to hand I swapped that with the one in the DE7 and ended up with the same result. Interestingly the motherboard I took out booted quite happily on its own.
I disconnected bluetooth/serial ports/parallel ports/wifi from the newly fitted motherboard and then tried booting it. It worked. I then reconnected the peripherals one at a time re-testing it each time and ended up with a perfectly functional Z90DE7.
Go figure....
